Hamilton will deliver a motivational talk about teamwork and how he has battled being born with cerebral palsy, which affects the movement of his leg muscles, to become a full-time racing driver with stints in the Renault Clio Cup UK and European Touring Car Cup. He currently drives a specially modified Cupra Léon for Team HARD in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) and has been a regular presenter on Channel 4’s Formula One programme.
At the Bodyshop magazine networking party and barbecue – which takes place on Monday, 5 June at the Forest of Arden Country Club and will officially launch Automechanika Birmingham 2023 (6-8 June) – guests will also be able to compete again Hamilton’s best F1 simulator track drive, with Hamilton providing commentary and advice for the guest racers.
Bodyshop magazine editor Simon Wait said: “It is an absolute privilege to have someone of Nic Hamilton’s calibre to come to our networking event to speak about his life and motor-racing journey, and to join in the fun we have planned for the evening.”
Hamilton, 30, was told as a child that he would never walk due to his cerebral palsy and would spend his life reliant on a wheelchair. Not one to be told he can’t do something, he endured years of gruelling, painful training so that by the age of 17 he could walk completely unaided. A huge achievement in itself, but this was just the start of his unwavering determination to become a professional driver in one of the most competitive and challenging sports on the planet.
As well as racing, Hamilton is focused on sharing his inspirational story and his belief that your ambition is limited only by your attitude. Delivered in his genuine down-to-earth manner, Hamilton’s keynotes recount his personal story of motivation, facing down challenges and overcoming adversity, as well the lessons in teamwork that his sport has instilled – something he wants to share with the Bodyshop Magazine Summer Launch Party audience.
